MSM World Cup Athlete Development Fund and Club MSM Alumni

The Next Generation Starts Here.

Another season is approaching when you arrive at Mont Ste-Marie in September and find Club MSM athletes already hard at work—running, training and preparing through dryland sessions for the winter ahead.

Around them, parents and volunteers are rolling and unrolling B-net, repairing equipment and completing the countless jobs needed to prepare the Club for another racing season. The day ends with two favourite Club MSM traditions: the Welcome BBQ hosted by our Alumni and the annual Ski Swap.

It is a scene that captures what Club MSM is all about: athletes, coaches, families, volunteers and alumni working together to build something special.

Club MSM gives young athletes an exceptional place to begin. It provides coaching, friendships, confidence, resilience and the opportunity to discover their potential. But when athletes graduate from the Club and are ready to pursue higher levels of competition, their need for community support does not end.

That is where Club MSM, our Alumni and the MSM World Cup Athlete Development Fund continue the journey together.

Club MSM: Where the Journey Begins

Club MSM provides the foundation on which our athletes build their futures.

Through quality coaching, challenging training and a strong team environment, athletes learn much more than how to race. They develop discipline, independence, perseverance and a lifelong connection to the Club MSM community.

That foundation continues to serve them as they progress beyond U16 into FIS, the National Capital Outaouais (NCO) program, provincial and national teams, NCAA competition and international racing.

This season, Club MSM proudly celebrates Max Maranda and Owen Wagner, who are competing with the Ontario Ski Team. Many more Club MSM athletes are training and racing on FIS circuits across Canada and around the world.

Their progress is proof that high-performance pathways can begin right here at Mont Ste-Marie.

Our Alumni: Carrying the Club MSM Legacy Forward

At Club MSM, graduation does not mean goodbye.

Our Alumni remain active members of the Club MSM community and continue to invest their time, knowledge and energy in the athletes following them.

Working alongside Club MSM, Alumni serve as mentors, officials, coaches, race organizers, volunteers and fundraisers. They deliver officials’ courses, help organize and operate FIS races, support young athletes and contribute to the events and traditions that bring our community together.

Last year the Welcome BBQ, Opening wine and cheese, Christmas Caroling, Olympic Party, Dustin Cook Weekend Celebration, Denim & Diamonds, SKI for Skis and the FIS Super Series are all examples of the energy and connection created when Club MSM and its Alumni work together.

These activities do more than support a racing program. They connect generations, preserve our traditions and build the sense of belonging that sets Club MSM apart.

The Dustin Cook Training Centre: Turning Legacy Into Opportunity

The Dustin Cook Training Centre is a lasting tribute to Dustin Cook’s remarkable journey from Club MSM athlete to World Cup champion, World Championship medallist and Olympian.

More importantly, it turns that legacy into opportunity for the athletes following him.

With enhanced training terrain, snowmaking and athlete facilities, the Training Centre provides an environment where Club MSM athletes can dream bigger, train harder and prepare for the next stage of competition.

It also enables Club MSM and Mont Ste-Marie to host high-level training and racing, welcoming athletes and coaches from across the region and beyond. The Centre strengthens Mont Ste-Marie’s role in athlete development and demonstrates what a committed ski community can accomplish together.

The World Cup Fund: Helping Athletes Take the Next Step

Club MSM provides the foundation. The Training Centre provides the environment. Our Alumni provide experience, leadership and connection. The MSM World Cup Athlete Development Fund helps athletes access the opportunities ahead.

Moving beyond U16 into high-performance sport requires an enormous commitment from athletes and their families. Team fees, coaching, training camps, equipment, travel and competition costs rise significantly at each stage of the pathway.

Talent and dedication may open the door—but financial realities can determine whether an athlete is able to walk through it.

The World Cup Fund helps reduce that burden, allowing committed Club MSM athletes to continue training, travelling and competing as they pursue their goals.

Since it was established in 2018, the Fund has supported aspiring athletes every year. To date, 25 athletes across alpine skiing, ski cross and snowboard cross have received assistance while competing at the FIS, National Capital Outaouais, NCAA, provincial, national and international levels.

Club MSM Athletes Making Their Mark

World Cup Fund athletes and Club MSM alumni are competing, studying, training, guiding and coaching around the world:

  • Max Maranda and Owen Wagner are competing with the Ontario Ski Team this season.
  • Luca Fulga is continuing his academic and athletic journey with the Harvard University alpine ski team on the NCAA circuit.
  • Zac Reynolds, a former Next Gen Canadian team ski-cross athlete, is giving back to the sport through coaching.
  • Sierra Smith guided Canadian Para alpine skier Kalle Eriksson to three medals at the 2026 Milan Cortina Paralympic Winter Games—one silver and two bronze.
  • Many more Club MSM athletes are pursuing their goals on FIS circuits in Canada and around the world.

These are not only individual success stories. They are Club MSM success stories.

Each athlete carries the experience, values and pride of our Club with them. Their achievements show today’s young racers that the pathway from Mont Ste-Marie to provincial teams, NCAA programs, national teams and international competition is real.

Be Part of What Comes Next

Success at this level never happens alone.

It happens because Club MSM builds the foundation. It happens because coaches challenge and inspire. It happens because parents and volunteers contribute countless hours. It happens because Alumni return to share what they have learned. And it happens because members of our community support the World Cup Fund.

The next provincial-team athlete, NCAA racer, national-team member, World Cup competitor, Paralympian, coach or mentor may already be training on our slopes.

Every Club MSM member can be part of that athlete’s journey—by volunteering, participating in Alumni events, sharing our story or contributing to the MSM World Cup Athlete Development Fund.

Club MSM is where the journey begins.

Our Alumni carry the legacy forward.

The World Cup Fund turns potential into opportunity.

Help us continue building opportunities for the next generation of Club MSM athletes.
